Are You Trying To Figure Out If You Really Want To Have Kids?

As a counselor, I designed this site to help people just like you! Get help here to find your answer to Do I Want Kids?
Start By Asking Yourself These 3 Important Questions:
1.  Do your life goals, plans and desires conflict with or complement being a parent?

     A.  Complement
     B.  A little of both
     C.  Conflict

2.  Are you making this decision based purely on what you want, without being influenced by what others or society want or expect of you?

     A.  Yes

     B.  Maybe
     C.  Unsure / No

3.  When you think of having kids or a childfree life, do you associate one or the other with more happiness and meaning for you?

     A.  More happiness and meaning with having kids

     B.  Either / Not sure
     C.  More happiness and meaning with staying childfree (your sense of meaning coming from other areas such as travel or career)

If you answered 'A' to all three questions: For the most part, it seems you want kids and that you are thinking clearly and from a healthy viewpoint. Perhaps certain fears or challenges are the main blocks to feeling confident in choosing the parenthood path.

If you answered 'B' to one or more questions: More consideration is needed. Your desire to have kids may be influenced by external factors and/or unhealthy motivations. It would be helpful for you to explore further any problematic internal and external factors that are influencing your thoughts and feelings and complicating your ability to clearly see whether you really want kids or not and whether parenthood is the best path for you.

If you answered 'C' to one or more questions: Your feelings about whether you want kids or not is complicated by different factors. You need to work through any concerns & complications, and explore your motivating reasons, influences, and fears in more depth to help clarify whether you really want kids and which path would be best for you.
